Police spotted the suspects' car at about 5am today and gave chase into the Somerset Park area.

A shootout ensued and one suspect was arrested.

The remaining four suspects again fled before their vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the wall of a gated community on Mount Edgecombe Drive.

Thereafter, they were caught by police and members of private security companies, including Enforce Security. Some of the suspects had tried to hide inside the estate.

Marshall Security's Kyle van Reenen says a firearm was also recovered at the scene.

"It is believed that the vehicle that was used is also linked to other house robberies and house-breakings within the greater Durban North area as well as the fact that the vehicle is wanted on a hijacking case from the Mayville area earlier in the week," he said.
