PICS: Durban sets new Guiness World Record
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Durban has been etched into the record books for holding the world's largest practical science lesson.
Some 2104 pupils sat for the lesson at the Durban Exhibition Centre earlier today.
The group, made up of Grade 9 pupils from schools across the city, broke the previous record of 2000 pupils set in India.
Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records have already given the new record the nod.
The event was organised by the Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education and MAHLE Behr, a global development partner for the automotive and engine industry.
Terence Pillay who hosted the event says history has been made.
"The crown went wild. There were 2105 learners in the audience and they went berserk. Councillor James Nxumalo, our mayor was here as well. He was very excited. It's great for Durban and it's great for the learners themselves," he said.
