PICS: Airforce training for KZN paramedics
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
KZN paramedics have teamed up with emergency personnel from Gauteng at an Air Force base.
Netcare 911 says the training is to ensure that the team is skilled such that they can be deployed to rescue those injured or need in of urgent medical attention from inaccessible areas - for instance from ships or far out to sea.
Working with a pilot and engineer, the training techniques included training the staff on how to exit a helicopter while it is hovering at a steep slope and hoisting two people at a time using a strop system.
Emergency workers were also coached on how to secure a patient into a stokes basket and then hoist them with the paramedic up to the helicopter.
