PHOTOS: Resident speaks of devastating hailstorm in Newcastle
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
While other parts of KwaZulu-Natal experienced heavy rains yesterday, a hail storm descended on Newcastle, north of the province.

Resident, Jude Theophilus has told Newswatch hail stones that came down during the storm could be compared to the size of tennis balls.
"It was like a storm we never experienced before, the sound of these hailstones banging on the roof and crashing through all five windows at my place was scary," Theophilus said.
Home windows were smashed, while cars were also destroyed during the severe weather conditions.
Theophilus says residents could be seen clearing debris, fallen branches and assessing the damage to their homes.

"I drove past homes this morning and everybody was out doing damage control," he said.
Newcastle Municipal authorities are assessing the extent of the damage.
