PHOTOS: One injured in Jacobs factory fire

One person has been hurt trying to escape from the smoke of a factory fire in Jacobs - south of Durban.

Emergency services say the community member had not been at the building itself - but was trying to avoid inhaling the smoke. 

KZN Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Robert Mckenzie says the building was safely evacuated earlier. He says the fire has been burning since about 4am today.

"No people have been injured at the site itself. Firefighters from eThekwini Fire Department are currently still at the scene fighting theblaze. Paramedics from KZN EMS as well as several private ambulance services were at the scene this morning. 

Mckenzie says medics treated one member of the community who was injured as he was trying to escape from the smoke.

It's unclear what sparked the blaze. The area has been cordoned off by Durban Metro Police - that's in the vicinity of Chamberlain and Brooklyn roads.
