These locals have told Newswatch today should remind us all of the importance of helping one another.

Meanwhile, political parties have headed local drives on Mandela Day.

Led by KZN Premier, Sihle Zikalala, a wreath laying ceremony got underway this morning at Howick's Mandela Capture Site.

ANC KZN officials then embarked on a clean-up campaign in uMsunduzi's Ward 28 and Ward 30.

The DA in the province and leader Zwakele Mncwango, visited areas in uMsunduzi and eThekwini.

The party says the first stop was made in Raisethorpe where a wheelchair was donated to an elderly man. Learning materials were also handed over to two pre-schools.

And moving abroad, the UN's global leaders have recognised the next ten years, that's from 2019 to 2028, as the Nelson Mandela Decade of Peace committed to intensifying efforts to build a just, peaceful, and inclusive world.
