Four people are receiving treatment in hospital after their vehicles were targeted by protestors on the N2 near Shakas Head, outside Ballito on the north coast last night.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says protestors threw rocks, stones and bricks at passing vehicles.
"The protest turned violent and multiple vehicles were stoned from the bridge at Shakas Head. IPSS transported patients with serious to moderate injuries following separate incidents. Large boulders, bricks and stones were thrown at vehicles that were coming off the off-ramp," he said.

IPSS says around 11 vehicles were stoned by protestors who also used burning tyres and other debris to barricade the N2's north and southbound carriageways, as well as the Shakas Head bridge over the freeway, last night.

Although the exact reasons behind the protest are still unknown, there have been reports that community members are angry over electricity connection issues.
Authorities managed to disperse the protestors and re-open the freeway last night.
Police have been unavailable for comment.
