Workers affiliated to Cosatu are demanding a decrease in the fuel price.
Hundreds of people have been protesting at strategic routes into Durban this morning. They say the record high fuel prices are suffocating the working class.
Their message to government is that they'll continue to protest until their demands are met. Newswatch's Nushera Soodyal has been reporting from the Mariannhill Toll Plaza - near Pinetown.
She reports protesters tried to spill over from the N3 towards the coast onto the Pietermaritzburg-bound carriageway - but police intervened.
Police have intensified efforts to keep the marchers - dressed in red T-shirts - on the Durban-bound lane after a group of protesters ran onto the Pietemaritzburg-bound lane and caused a complete blockage to traffic.
