Photos: 3 suspected car thieves killed in shootout with Malvern police
3 suspects have been killed in a shootout with police in Malvern, Durban.
According to police, a group of five suspected thieves in a VW Jetta had been attempting to steal a Toyota Tazz on Main Road last night when officers approached them.
The police's Jay Naicker says this is when officers gave chase and a shootout took place.
"Police recovered three 9mm pistols with their serial numbers filed off as well as ammunition from the suspects. They also found implements used to break into cars.
He says no police officers were hurt and a manhunt is underway for two of the suspects who escaped.
"A case of attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms has been opened for further investigation", Naicker said.
