Phoenix triple murder: Accused now faces aggravated robbery charge
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The man accused of killing a Durban mother and her daughters is now also facing a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Jane Govindsamy and her daughters Denisha and Nikita were found in their flat in Phoenix over a week ago.
There was confusion this morning when Collin Pillay’s attorney, Chris Gounden was late for court and his client couldn't say where he was when asked by the magistrate.
The magistrate called for an adjournment until Gounden arrived.
After Gounden showed up, state prosecutor Rakesh Singh read out the charges revealing the additional robbery charge.
But Gounden asked for a ten-minute adjournment, saying he needed time to go through the charge sheet.

After the ten minutes had lapsed - everyone returned to the courtroom except Gounden. One of his colleagues had to call him back to court.
Gounden returned 20 minutes later than the agreed time and asked the court to move Pillay’s bail application to next week but not before an unimpressed Singh registered his unhappiness over Gounden’s conduct with the magistrate.
The case will resume next week.
