Phoenix power to be restored soon says City
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The eThekwini Municipality says power supply to the greater area of Phoenix in the north of Durban may be unstable for the next few weeks.
This is after an electrical fault led to a fire at the Redfern Major Substation on Monday.
The city's spokesperson, Gugu Sisilana says eThekwini's Electricity department found that the main asset of the substation, the transformer, was not affected by the fire.

However, the incident did cause damage to the secondary cabling, as well as the transformer's incoming high-voltage and low-voltage cables.
"Teams have already been assigned to repair and replace the affected equipment, once the necessary repairs are completed, rigorous testing and commissioning will be carried out to ensure the safest duration of the substation to the network.
The Redfern substation will return to service in the next 8 to 10 weeks."
