Phaahla predicts Covid to be endemic by 2023
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
There appears to be light at the end of the dark Covid-19 tunnel.
"There's suggestions that in a few months or so, it may actually become endemic, which means it may come part of the illness that is around us seasonally,” predicts Health Minister Joe Phaahla.
“We are not yet there.”
Phaahla believes by 2023 Covid-19 may be downgraded to a common flu.
He was speaking at the Zuid Afrikaans Hospital in Pretoria on Tuesday, where he received a booster shot.
He said the emergence of new coronavirus variants will only be stopped through vaccination.
The minister has renewed his call for young people to roll up their sleeves and get jabbed.
"The future is yours. Whereas you left it a few years, you still have your whole life ahead of you. This virus is not going away, it's going to keep changing we don't know how it's going to end up."
