Minister Joe Phaahla says over 8 400 people who were left homeless during the
recent floods are currently being housed in 98 shelters, community halls,
religious facilities and other temporary structures within communities.
Phaahla had been reporting during a social cluster media briefing on the national state of disaster on the floods.
A breakdown shows those being sheltered include 4 700 women, 1 700 children under the age of 10, 1 000 elderly persons and 217 people with disabilities.
"The department is working in collaboration with other stakeholders in executing the role of providing humanitarian relief," said Phaahla.
