Petrol price to drop 99c per litre from next week

The price of all petrol grades is set to drop by 99 cents a litre next week. The Energy Department says diesel will also decrease by between 74 and 73 cents per litre on Wednesday. 

A lower international oil price is said to have contributed. Efficient Group economist, Dawie Roodt says there may be more petrol price drops in the coming months.

"The recent strengths we have seen in our currency have not yet reflected on the petrol price. So based on the exchange rate of the currency a further fall in the petrol price can be expected next month, maybe a month thereafter," he said. 

"I do also expect the international oil price to go up a bit over the next few months. The next effect is pretty much going to be neutral," Roodt said.
