Pet owners urged to keep their animals safe on NYE

The National SPCA has urged pet owners to take extra care of their animals tonight - when New Year celebrations kick-off.
Many people are likely to ring in 2017 by burning fireworks.

The SPCA's Christine Kuch says every year they take in stray animals frightened from their properties - because of the loud noise.
She says pet owners need to ensure they're kept safe at all times.
"Have them identifiable. It's still not too late to contact your veterinarian, or if you go for the easier route - a collar with a tag. To everyone with an animal: be responsible," she said.
