Updated | By Shaun Ryan
A pedestrian has been killed on the N2 Southbound carriageway in the vicinity of the KwaMashu interchange, north of Durban.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was struck while trying to cross the busy highway at about 7am.
Netcare911's Chris Botha says paramedics found that the man had already passed away.
"Tragically, when we arrived there the man had died due to the very severe injuries that he had sustained. Paramedics declared him dead there at the scene. An investigation into the incident is underway," he said.
Botha says the motorist assessed on scene by medics was not hurt in the crash.
Traffic was severely affected on the Southbound carriageway that's heading from Umhlanga towards Durban.
