Cyril Ramaphosa's said in a statement from his office that he's accepted the Nugent Commission's recommendation that Moyane be axed immediately - describing him as reckless.

Retired judge, Robert Nugent, found that Moyane was the architect behind the collapse of governance and administration at the revenue service.

And he said that in order to stabilise SARS and restore its credibility - a new commissioner should be appointed with immediate effect.

Acting commissioner, Mark Kingon will remain head of SARS until the vacancy is filled. While COPE's called for Moyane to be held accountable, the DA's Alf Lees says they hope the new commissioner takes SARS in the right direction.

"Mr Moyane has done incredible damage to SARS as an institution and as a revenue collection agency. That will now have to be repaired. We urge President Ramaphosa to ensure that the replacement of Mr Moyane as SARS commissioner is both transparent in order for a proper rebuild of the SARS capacity," he said.
