Parliamentary committee pleads with Vuwani residents

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Basic Education has called on all role players to ensure that thousands of Vuwani school children have access to education for the rest of the year.

The call follows disruptions over the past four months. Another four classrooms were torched earlier this week.

Residents have been up in arms about the Demarcation Board's decision to merge Vuwani with neighbouring town - Malamulele, sharing one municipality.

The committee's Nomalungelo Gina says they are pleading with the parents, communities and learners themselves.

"We're pleading to stakeholders to defend their schools - that is the plea we are putting forth," she said.
