The bill aims to provide equal access to healthcare for all South Africans.
Committee Chairperson Dr Sbongiseni Dhlomo says it will also solve the problem of accommodating non-medical aid patients in private hospitals.
“If you
were to be in an accident now, the ambulance will come to you and check whether
you do or do not have medical aid. If you do not have medical aid, they will
drive you, even far away from the accident scene, to [a public hospital].”
