Parliament needs to be supervised by Concourt: EFF
The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema says he hopes the Constitutional Court will consider its application to order the Speaker of Parliament to institute impeachment proceedings against President Jacob Zuma.
Malema filed papers at the highest court in the land this afternoon.
Tomorrow is exactly one year since the court handed down its judgment in the EFF's Nkandla application.
Since then the EFF says their numerous appeals and letters have fallen on deaf ears, leading to violence by Parliament.
"We went to Parliament and tried everything within the rules, followed every little detail, to try and get Parliament to discipline President Zuma for having breached his oath of office. You can't breach your oath of office and there are no consequences," said Malema.
Malema says Parliament clearly needs the Constitutional Court to ensure that it carries out its mandate.
"Our Parliament is captured by the Guptas. They are rendering it useless and that is why the president cannot be held accountable. Parliament is one of the institutions that is captured, Parliament is one of the institutions that has collapsed. Therefore, they will need the Constitutional Court to supervise them so that they execute their constitutional mandate."
