Parliament committee condemns attack on Mtwalume farmer
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A parliamentary committee has stepped up calls for calm, in the wake of a violent land invasion in the Mtwalume area, on KwaZulu-Natal's south coast.
The manager of a sugar cane farm was hospitalised, after he was pushed into a fire allegedly by land invaders on Friday.
Police says he survived the attack by rolling out the fire.
Nkosi Mandela is the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development.
He says MPs are extremely shocked by the events that unfolded at the Mathulini Communal Property Association Farm.
"They appeal for calm and urge all involved to respect and observe due process. All acts of criminality must face the full might of the law," Mandela said.
