Parents wait for DNA results after babies swapped at Durban hospital
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
KZN Health says it's still waiting for DNA test results before two babies who were swapped at a Durban hospital can be returned to their rightful parents.
One of the mothers is said to have given birth at RK Khan Hospital in Chatsworth this past weekend.
The department says the infant had to be transferred to King Edward Hospital for treatment for a condition that has not been disclosed.
But the wrong baby was returned to the mother.
The department's says they were made aware of the mix-up after an RK Khan Hospital staff member picked it up.
Authorities say police were notified and both babies put in place of safety for the time being.

They are now investigating the circumstances that led to the swap - and say they'll make sure this doesn't happen again.
Visvin Reddy is the chairperson of the RK Khan Action Committee and says something needs to be done.
"The fact that babies can be mixed up its something that we don't wish upon on our worst enemy. Imagine if this error was not identified what would have happened?
"These children would have grown up in families that not their own."
"Its unheard of. My issue is that there is no proper check and balances that are placed in public system," he said.
