The TEARS Foundation's Mara Glennie has been commenting after reports that six children in Verulam were allegedly sexually assaulted by a paedophile.

"One of the sadness of our times is that rape is on the increase for adults and children but alarmingly so, more children are experiencing rape," she said.

Police say an inquiry into the alleged incidents has been launched after cases were opened.

Glennie has urged parents, to keep a closer eye on their children, especially during these school holidays.

"Most rapes happen by a person known to the child. I am urging all parents who are aware of this new case in Verulam to know who their children are in contact with, and look at their website activity because children are more vulnerable through the electronic devices that we are giving them," she said.
