Parents must help end 'bullying pandemic' – KZN Education

The department's been commenting following the death of a 14-year-old Durban schoolgirl, allegedly after being teased by some of her schoolmates about her appearance.

Asanda Thethwayo took her own life over the weekend.

She was Grade 10 pupil at Isipingo Secondary School.

Provincial education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says they need everyone's help to win the fight against the scourge.

"We are also employing teachers and parents to always pay attention to what the child is saying. We are urging parents to preach to their children who may be perpetrators, in this case, to say bullying is not right. 

"That is why we are saying as the department of education also we cannot fight this and win." 

Asanda's mother says the family has yet to hear from the department.
