Paramedics issue warning as KZN drownings increase

Emergency officials are urging parents to be cautious after two teenagers drowned in separate incidents in KZN at the weekend.
Netcare 911's Nick Dollman has issued an important message to parents and child-minders.
"A this time of year, paramedics attend to an increased number of drownings. We encourage all people especially parents and childminders to be extra vigilant. Drownings can affect anybody of any age," he says.
On Saturday, lifeguards pulled the body of a 15-year-old girl from the water at Doonside Beach, near Amanzimtoti south of Durban.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old matric pupil drowned while swimming in the Umgeni River near KwaMkhizwana, west of Durban.
Education's Kwazi Mthethwa says the boy went for a swim with friends after writing Physics Paper 1 on Friday.
"We are going to be visiting the family and the affected school. We also wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of that learner," he says.
