Pandor is leading a South African delegation to The Hague to hear today's provisional judgement on Israel's war in Gaza.

South Africa lodged an application with the ICJ last month, arguing that Israel is committing genocide, a claim that the state of Israel denies.

It's seeking urgent interim measures that it says will protect Palestinians in Gaza.

It includes an immediate pause of Israel's military operations in the territory.

"Of course, South Africa is hopeful. We've always approached this case in a positive spirit, but our core purpose was really that it’s a vital tool to highlight the plight of the innocent in Palestine and to also alert the international community to the great harm that is being done to the people of Palestine,” she says.

Pandor says the Palestinian issue is now front and centre.

"Often, I think the world community does not appreciate the efforts that were made by leaders, particularly leaders of the western countries, that negotiated the settlement of the end of the second world war following the horrible experiences, murder and killing of people of Jewish nationality. The world put together institutions whose remit is to protect the innocent.“
