Over R160-million allocated to curbing corruption: Pillay
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Finance MEC says fraud continues to be a major problem in KwaZulu-Natal with municipalities having faced more than 400 probes in the past decade.
Delivering his budget speech at the KZN Legislature yesterday, Ravi Pillay said that for corruption to be exposed - money has to be lost.
He hopes the department's 2019/20 budget allocation of R166-million helps reduce misconduct and wrongdoing.

He says between 2009 and this year, there have been 417 forensic investigations into provincial departments, public entities and municipalities.
"Approximately 80% of the investigation requests received were investigated and completed. Those that warranted criminal investigation were referred to the law enforcement agencies. The remaining 20% of alleged corruption cases are currently being finalised."
"Most of the allegations received are serious and complex in nature. They are also very costly as we have asked departments and sometimes municipalities to meet the cost of these," Pillay said.
