Over 50’s eligible for additional booster shot

The National Health Department has updated its Covid-19 vaccination schedule.
It has made available the additional booster for people aged 50 years and older and who took their last dose of the Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson jab four months ago.
The department's Foster Mohale says you can receive your additional booster from today.
"This is government’s effort to increase vaccine uptake to achieve population immunity. We want to protect the most vunerable groups especially those lving with co-mobilities such as diabetes, hypertension and cancer. The only safety data which support the decision to administer additional pfzier vaccine and it's more reason to believe that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be safe.”
Mohale says decisions will only be made based on available scientific data.

More than 1 100 new infections of the virus were picked up in the last 24 hour reporting cycle.
KZN has almost 6 000 active coronavirus cases.
Meanwhile, the country's seen a rise in the pandemic death toll. Four more people have died, bringing the number of those who lost their lives since the outbreak to 101 317.
