KZN police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says the suspects were arrested for crimes including rape, sexual assault, child pornography and attempted rape.

He says the province's courts also handed down 14 life terms as well as a total of 197 years of imprisonment in November to 35 people convicted of rape and sexual assault.

"The detectives across the province were in and out of courts to ensure that justice is delivered to victims of crime who were sexually violated and attacked. From 1 November to 30 November 2019, 315 suspects were arrested for various crimes including  rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, child neglect, child pornography, attempted rape and assault."

"We are very pleased with the outcome, especially as we observe the 16 Days of Activism. However, we realise the situation out there, our work is still not done and we continue to ensure that those accused of gender-based violence are put behind bars where they belong,"  he said.
