Over 2 700 new Covid cases recorded in last 24 hours

There's been a significant jump in new Covid-19 infections in South Africa.
The Health Ministry says it's recorded 2 759 fresh cases - in the last 24-hour cycle.
This takes the number of people diagnosed with the pandemic to s 1 602 031.
Seventy-two more people have succumbed to the virus, bringing our death toll to 54 968.

"Today, 72 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 6, Free State 13, Gauteng 27, Kwa-Zulu Natal 5, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 5, North West 0, Northern Cape 4 and Western Cape 12 which brings the total to 54 968 deaths," the department said in a statement.
KZN's active cases have climbed to 5 591.
Meanwhile, 430 730 healthcare workers have received the Covid jab.
