Over 1600 killed in festive season road crashes

More than 1600 people were killed on South Africa's roads over the 2018/2019 festive season.

"According to preliminary figures - crashes recorded in the recent festive season total 1286. This regrettably and unfortunately resulted in 1612 fatalities nationwide," Nzimande said.
Transport Minister - Blade Nzimande released the preliminary festive season road stats in Pretoria.
Nzimande said the toll is up from 1527 fatalities the year before.
More than 300 fatalities were recorded here on KZN roads - a popular destination for international and domestic tourists over the end-of-year break.
"KwaZulu-Natal had 267 crashes while the number of fatalities totals 328," Nzimande said.
