President Cyril Ramaphosa says the country will be getting other coronavirus vaccines from elsewhere following the suspension of the rollout of the Johnson & Johnson jabs.

There are safety concerns after six women in the US who'd received the J&J shot developed blood clots afterwards.

One of them has died.

Ramaphosa spoke to reporters this afternoon after a meeting with senior Transnet officials at the Port of Durban.

The Johnson and Johnson vaccine is halted for now and hopefully not for too long because the scientists are going to look at the efficiency of the vaccine.

" Already Pfizer will be arriving soon and Sputnik as well as Sinopharm. We procured vaccines from all over."

He says South Africa isn't the only country having problems with vaccines.

"Our objective as the government is always been to protect the lives of South Africans and that is what we continue to do as we make choices."

Scientists behind the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine hope a new study will help ease fears around getting it.

They found the risk of rare blood clotting is considerably higher after catching coronavirus compared with having the jab.

Several countries have suspended the use of the drug in response to several cases.
