Oscar takes off prosthesis in court

Oscar Pistorius has taken off his prosthesis in the North Gauteng High Court as his Advocate Barry Roux asked the court to consider all the factors, including his personal circumstances and anxiety on the night he shot dead Reeva Steenkamp at his home.

A short while ago, Pistorius took of his artificial legs and walked around the courtroom on his stumps as Roux wrapped up his heads of argument in the athlete's sentencing proceedings.

As he made his way around the room, even walking past Reeva's parents, there were sobs in the public gallery.

Roux has asked the court not to sentence Pistorius to the minimum 15 years for murder and to rather consider Oscar, the man and his vulnerabilities.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel has argued that Pistorius's actions on Valentines Day in 2013 border on dolus directus, adding the court still does not know what his defense is.

In December, the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned Pistorius's culpable homicide conviction for which he was sentenced to five years in prison.

It replaced it with a murder conviction, after the State successfully argued that he would have foreseen that his actions on that day would have likely resulted in the death of whoever was behind the toilet door.

Pistorius says he fired at the toilet door thinking there was an intruder inside.
