Oscar Pistorius scam suspect due in court
Updated | By News24
A man who allegedly told Oscar Pistorius he could quash his murder conviction in exchange for R250 000 is expected to appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
The 33-year-old man was arrested in a sting operation on Friday, said Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.
He allegedly impersonated a National Prosecuting Authority official and called Pistorius on Thursday night, demanding R250 000 from the former Paralympian to make his murder conviction disappear.
The Hawks dispatched a team to deal with the family. During the operation the man was given R40 000 in cash before being arrested next to the High Court in Pretoria.
He would face a charge of corruption.
Pistorius is expected to be sentenced on April 18 for the February 2013 murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
