Oscar to be released on parole next Tuesday

The Parole Board of the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria sat today to continue its consideration of Pistorius' application.

Pistorius was last year sentenced to five years' imprisonment for the culpable homicide of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.

In terms of the Criminal Procedures Act, he was entitled to apply to be placed under under house arrest for the remainder of his sentence.

He applied successfully for correctional supervision earlier this year and was initially due to leave prison in August.

However, the Minister of Correctional Services blocked his release from prison at the eleventh hour and referred the matter to the Parole Review Board.

The Board last week referred the matter back to the Parole Board.

The legal representative of Reeva Steenkamp's family, Tania Koen, says they were informed of the decision the Department of Correctional Services just before 2pm today.
