Opposition reacts to Gordhan's return
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
While opposition parties have welcomed the president's decision to reappoint Pravin Gordhan as the Finance Minister, many feel the damage has already been done.
President Jacob Zuma announced last night that Gordhan will take over from David van Rooyen, who was appointed five days ago.
Calls for Zuma to step down continue to stream in, despite the announcement with the #ZumaMustStillFall trending in Durban.
While the rand’s bounced back slightly following Gordhan's re-appointment, COPE President Mosiuoa Lekota feels the announcement won’t be enough to repair the damage done by the President.
Lekota says there’s a lot of uncertainty in the country and the world.
The EFF's called for Zuma's resignation, saying South Africa is a joke. UDM Leader Bantu Holomisa has echoed their sentiments, saying Zuma has lost control & should be recalled.
While the DA’s accused Zuma of playing Russian roulette with the country's economy referencing the volatility of the markets, a decline in the rand and low investor confidence.
If anyone should be shifted, it should be Zuma. R11bn, currency devaluations, corruption, stagflation. How much more? #ZumaMustFall

Dear Pravin, welcome to turbulent waters. Please stand up against the SAA deal, nuclear deal, rampant looting Etc, Zuma. #ZumaMustFall

Announcement by the Presidency that Gordhan & van Rooyen have swapped positions is an admission that Zuma was indeed reckless & irrational.

JZ have lost the plot completely! This is a banana republic antics! He has now appointed Pravin back but continues to sideline Nene

Bottom line is that Nene remain dismissed clearly for putting his foot down on SAA and nuclear. Pravin will remember this everyday

Musical chairs in the palace won't solve the crisis: 8.3m unemployed, 14m go to bed hungry, 54% live in poverty & have become more unequal

#VanRooyen failed as mayor of Merafong but #Zuma sees it fit to deploy him to oversee 278 municipalities as #Cogta Minister #Reshuffle

Prerogative in the absence of accountability leads to erratic and ill-considered decisions. #Reshuffle
