Leaders of the opposition parties briefed the media this afternoon following a meeting in Johannesburg.

The meeting was attended by the DA's Mmusi Maimane, EFF's Godrich Gardee and Dali Mpofu, UDM's Bantu Holomisa, COPE's Mosiuoa Lekota, IFP's Mangaqa Mncwango and the ACDP's Kenneth Meshoe.

The political parties discussed the latest motion of no confidence in Zuma and a day of mass action planned for next week Wednesday.

Leaders said the president has plunged the country into a crisis with his hostile takeover of Treasury and his disregard for the people, the constitution and the economy.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane said he believes that opposition parties are united in their call for President Zuma to go and  that the supremacy of the Constitution of the Republic must always be upheld.

"We agreed that there is a need for a summit that brings together political parties and civil society to discuss the state of South Africa. Going forward, we will at times act collectively and at times as separate political parties, depending on the nature of the issue facing the country. Our programme of action will be to put the people first, with the vision to build a better South Africa," said Maimane.

Maimane added the DA will also be submitting papers for a review application which seeks to test the legal rationality of President Zuma's "disastrous cabinet reshuffle".

"The EFF, UDM and COPE are currently before the Constitutional Court to probe the process and duty of Parliament to facilitate the impeachment of the President," said Maimane.

The EFF's Dali Mpofu said members of the ANC who do not vote in favour of the no confidence motion will have to deal with their conscience.

"They must look at their children in their eye and say when the moment came, I chose to keep Zuma and the Guptas", said Mpofu.
