Opposition parties slam ‘uninspired’ SONA by president
Updated | By Newswatch
President Cyril Ramaphosa has been accused of delivering a State of the Nation Address that was far removed from the reality of many South Africans.
Ramaphosa highlighted the government's achievements and priorities including interventions in ending load shedding, corruption and the continuation of projects that've been in the pipeline.
DA leader John Steenhuisen said his address was 'uninspiring' and lacked accountability.
"This is the same president who told us in 2018, you may remember, ‘In 12 to 18 months, load shedding will be a thing of the past, and you will forget the problems of Eskom ever existed’. Now we're in 2024, but load shedding is worse than it has been in the last 10 years."
The IFP's Velenkosini Hlabisa echoed Steenhuisen's sentiments, adding that Ramaphosa wasn’t honest about the state capture report.

"When he said we are taking action on state capture, the house laughed at him. He himself laughed."
Meanwhile, ATM leader Vuyo Zungula also voiced his frustration.
"There is no hope because there would be improvement If the person could acknowledge that he, as a leader of the country has failed. What he has done is pool wool over people's eyes."
