Only 29% of eligible people in KZN vaccinated: Zikalala
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Premier Sihle Zikalala says only 29% of all eligible people in KwaZulu-Natal have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Zikalala was briefing reporters on Wednesday on the latest developments on Covid-19 in the province.
"This is a worrying state of affairs. Between the age of 18 to 34 the target is around 2.4 million, which is 11%..
"We are pleading with all citizens to come forward and encourage their friends and family to also get vaccinated so that we can contribute meaningfully towards helping our country reach population immunity.
"Our participation and support of the vaccination effort is crucial because of our high population numbers as the second-biggest province in the country. "
Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu echoed Zikalala's pleas.
She says there's a higher number of unvaccinated people being admitted hospitals with COVID-19 compared to those who've received the jab.
"Which is why we are making a great call that our people must come forward and get vaccinated because we believe so far it is the only solution that we have."
