Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
Economist, Dawie Roodt says the ongoing truck protests are causing more harm to a South African economy already under severe strain.
Some South African drivers are accusing logistics companies of hiring mostly foreign nationals.
Last week - several incidents of violence were reported, with some trucks torched on the highway in Cape Town and other hijacked in other parts.
Roodt, who's the chief economist at the Efficient Group says truck companies will be counting their losses if this action continues.

"I think it's important for everyone to understand that the South African economy is in deep recession and anything that will hamper the economic growth, for example a strike will push the recession even deeper.
Roodt adds that without a doubt the protests will damper the economy.
"I think all participants should realise, that if they have a job they should be thankful."
