Updated | By Lauren Beukes
One of two prisoners who escaped from two northern KZN correctional facilities has been recaptured.
An alert was issued on Tuesday as a manhunt got underway for 34-year-old Siyabonga Sikhakhane and 29-year-old Siphamandla Gift Simelane.
Sikhakhane broke out of a prison in Nkandla.
The Department of Correctional Services says he was caught on Wednesday morning.

He will appear in court to face a charge of escaping from lawful custody. The department says he will also be transferred to a different correctional facility.
Sikhakhane has been serving a 16-year sentence for housebreaking and theft, eight years of which had been suspended.
Simelane, who escaped from a facility in Vryheid, is still at large.
Members of the public are urged to contact the nearest police station should they come into contact with him.
