Investigations are underway to establish the cause of a fire that broke out at Albany Hotel in the Durban CBD.
eThekwini fire and emergency crews attended to the scene on Anton Lembede street (formerly Smith Street) on Saturday.
Firefighters were able to locate the blaze on the 10th floor.
ALS spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says the people inside were evacuated as the smoke began spreading to other apartments.
After the flames were extinguished, the affected floors were barricaded and structural engineers were called to inspect them to certify them safe for use.
Jamieson says only one person needed medical attention.
"Paramedics stood by in the waiting area whilst the Durban Fire Department tackled the blaze, then brought out on patient to the ambulance crews. Paramedics assessed the patient who had sustained moderate injuries as a result of the fire including smoke inhalation and stabilised her on scene before she was transported to a nearby hospital.
