One killed, 40 injured in Midlands bus accident
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
One person has been killed while at least 40 others have been hurt when a bus carrying passengers overturned on the R56, just outside Ixopo, in the KZN Midlands, this morning.
The cause behind the accident is still unknown at this point. According to ER24 emergency services some of the occupants were still trapped inside the bus when emergency services arrived.
The service's Werner Vermaak says the passengers sustained various injuries.
"Some of the patients sustained traumatic amputations in this incident. When paramedics arrived on scene they found that several of the patients had been taken through to Christ The King Hospital," he said.
"Paramedics then set up a triage area and went through to the hospital to assist with the triage of the patients and to transport them through to various hospitals in the area," Vermaak said.
"Local firefighters had to use Jaws of Life to free some of the trapped victims," he said.
