A taxi passenger has been killed after the minibus in which he was travelling was involved in a head-on collision with a bakkie in Pinetown.
The crash took place this morning on Richmond Road near a petrol station.
It is unclear what led to the collision, but paramedics from various emergency services, including KwaZulu-Natal EMS and Netcare 911 found several people trapped in the wreckage when they arrived on the scene.
Netcare 911's Chris Botha says there are indications it was a high speed impact.
"Paramedics, the fire department and the provincial medical services arrived there and found that a man who had been sitting in the front row of the taxi tragically died due to the severe injuries he sustained".
" There were several other patients injured with one female being in a critical condition. There was a total of 15 patients injured. Paramedics treated those injured on scene and transported them to nearby hospitals for further care," Botha said.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
