Officials assess KZN water supply projects

The National Council of Provinces' Select Committee on Appropriations and Finance says it is satisfied with the progress being made on various service delivery projects in KwaZulu-Natal.

A delegation is in the province this week assessing government's spending of allocated funds on the projects, including the KwaJobe Water Supply Project and Jozini Water Treatment Works in northern KZN.

The committee's Charel de Beer says the 308km treatment plan will supply water to an estimated 3000 people.

De Beer says oversight is crucial in such projects.

"What is crucial is what is done in phases, allocation of money, time frames and date of completion. The monitoring of the whole programme being implemented is also crucial, so we call it an oversight view," he said.

The committee will visit the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone, Dube Trade Port and Cornubia Integrated Human Settlements project today.
