Obama comments on Russian warplane shot in Turkey
Updated | By Sky News
Tensions are simmering between Turkey and Russia after news yesterday that the Turkish military shot down a Russian warplane, claiming it had violated Turkish airspace 10 times within a five-minute period.

Moscow insists the fighter jet was in Syrian airspace, adding that one of the two pilots who ejected from the craft was killed by gunfire from the ground as he descended.

United States President Barack Obama insists that Turkey has a right to defend its airspace and criticised Russia for targeting moderate opposition groups in Syria over the Islamic State.
"If the priority is attacking the moderate opposition that might be future members of an inclusive Syrian government, Russia is not going to get the support of us or a range of other members of the coalition," he said.
Meanwhile, Obama and his French counterpart have vowed to step up the fight against the Islamic States.
