"This is an important improvement that NSFAS now has linkages with SARS to check parental eligibility student eligibility. We also now have interaction with data from home affairs."

Nzimande says students have two months to submit their applications.

"Now that we are open, we are calling upon all prospective students to apply, those who are coming in for the first time and those who are continuing and also urge parents to move closer to the process. "

He says matrics don't need to wait for their results first.

"Students do not have to wait for matric results in order to apply for NSFAS. They can do it right away."
