Nurses threaten to protest over non-payment of uniform allowances
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) says its members will not be wearing their uniforms when they report for duty on Monday.
It's the health workers union's their way of protesting over the non-payment of uniform allowances.
DENOSA's Mandla Shabangu says the Health Department was supposed to pay members the annual sum in April, but this did not happen.
"Nurses are only saying they don't have anything to wear. They will wear whatever they can wear. If they wear shorts or they wear gowns to work, they'll do that, because that's what they have. They don't have the uniform, which is not their fault.

"It is the employer who should prioritise what should be done. Whether there's COVID-19 or not. Nurses still have to be given what is due to them".
Shabangu says the union's written twice to the department and is yet to receive a response.
