An emotional Zokuthula Ngcobo from Avoca Hills has told Newswatch about how she found the baby under a seat - crying hysterically.

Along with the baby, 28-year-old Ngcobo found a note from his mother - apologising for abandoning him, saying she cannot take care of him, and the father is not interested.

The note, which was written in isiZulu, read: "I'm sorry for what I've done from the bottom of my heart, forgive me. Please forgive me, there was  nothing else I could do because this child's father says its not his, I also don't have and ID document in order to apply for a grant as I left it at my homestead at the farm. Please can you take the child and raise it or take to the police. Thank you."

Ngcobo says she rushed the child to the trauma unit at Westville Life Hospital where she works. She said the baby appeared extremely hungry, as he was sucking on his hands.

"I was holding him. He was crying. I was in tears too. I was calling everyone who was coming to come and see what I found but I was in tears. I was so shocked I couldn't believe, I taught they will tell me something like maybe there is a mother hiding somewhere," she said.

Ngcobo says she cannot stop crying and thinking about the baby, and wants to adopt him.

"It's a big decision but I'm thinking this is God's plan. I always sit here waiting for my transport and there was a delay for my transport, that's why I say it was God's plan for giving me this boy," she said.
