Nurdle beach clean-up efforts paying off
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Nurdle clean-up operations around Durban are yielding good results.

That is according to the South African Maritime Safety Authority. Captain Hopewell Mkhize says the clean-up has now moved from the city beaches towards the north coast.
"They have moved on to other areas on the North Coast, so the operation is still underway," He said.
"So far about 3 500 tons of the plastic pieces have been collected," he said.
Mkhize says beaches that will be prioritised include Clarke Bay, Granny's Pool, Shaka's Rock, Thompsons beach, Mvoti beach and Ballito main beach. Around 2 000 bags of the tiny plastic pellets were lost from a ship's container in the Durban port during the severe storm in October.
The nurdles can absorb pollutants in the water - posing a health risk if consumed.
